DCist Should Not Be a Four-Letter Word

I'll start the ball rolling. We have all noticed the (less than gradual) decline in the quality of the articles in the blog we love to hate, DCist.
We know how accepting we are of new personnel, but I for one bucked the trend of "let's see how he/she works out" or "let's give him/her a chance". I'll say up front I didn't like him from the start. Of course there is his view of what is or isn't Pornography (evidenced by my semi-nude photographs of the coeds on the beach), but it was his attitude that struck me first. I felt it was obvious he didn't like criticism, he felt himself above his readers, and damned be what you are interested in, I'll write about myself.  ... That's all for now, more to follow.

  1. I think he's on the wrong career path. Given time and the right editor, he'd make a great longform writer--essays, commentary, longer investigative pieces.

    1. I agree. Unfortunately he's ruining the site for people who would have been there long after he's gone.

  2. When an editor needs editing, he's the wrong editor. I'd like to think Gothamist is taking note of the dissension...but then they probably think he's the bee's knees.

    1. Maybe I should resend my e-mail to Jen. But I wonder if they care. They don't pay him much I would guess, and if ad revenue makes the bottom line black they don't care.

    2. Sad but true. His writing can be very clunky and often has silly typos. If he's not catching them, then no one is since it seems the Gothamist chain-of-command does not include copy editors. Sadly, this is something missing from a lot of the blogosphere (Gawker Media, I'm looking at you). If I was letting that sort of thing into my newsletter, my bosses wouldn't think too highly of me for long. (And no, I'm not offering my services to DCist. It would be a pay cut, I'm sure. Plus I'd have to work with Ben.)
